Authorities are working to determine what caused a suburban Detroit fire that left a young child dead and another critically injured, reports CBS Detroit (http://cbsloc.al/1LxXN6m)
WWJ reported Sunday that the fire in Romulus townhouse on Mountain Way off of Eureak Road around began around 2 p.m.
The mother of the 1 and 3-year-old has been arrested for child endangerment – the fire apparently started in the bed of the children’s mother who was not home at the time.
Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Krause says she eventually returned home and was taken into custody.
Krause says crews arrived within two minutes of getting a 911 call and found flames coming from an upstairs window.
Krause says they pulled a 1-year-old girl from the town house and she was later pronounced dead. He says the 3-year-old boy was taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition. Names weren’t immediately released. Krause says the children had smoke inhalation, not burns.
