AUTOMOBILE CHEMICAL ENGINES.
The Marten-Diggs Fire-Extinguisher company, of 141-43 Centre street. Manhattan, New York, having determined to place on the market at the earliest possible date an automobile chemical engine. is seeking a solution of the problem, whether it should be a straight chemical or one with the combination features. The company recognises the fact that the chief engineers of fire departments are the best authority on this subject, and, in order to get the consensus of opinion, it has sent to heads of fire departments the following questions; “What, in your opinion, is the best type of automobile chemical engine—(1) straight chemical engine; (2) combination hose and chemical; (3) single or double-tank, and of how many gals, capacity?” The company hopes to be able to judge from the answers received what type will be the best all round.
is to have a capacity of 25,000 gals. It will be mounted on a 50-ft. steel tower.
