Baby-Sitter Honored By Fire Chiefs

The Seneca County, N. Y., Fire Chiefs Association and the Seneca County Volunteer Firemen’s Association have presented a letter of commendation and plaque to Jo Anne Reagan, 17-year-old Ovid, N. Y., baby-sitter, for heroism. Miss Reagan was awakened one morning last November to discover fire in the kitchen of the rural home where she was employed. Smoke was rising to the second-floor bedrooms.

Placing four children, including a fivemonth-old infant, on the porch roof, she then attempted to get them safely to the ground. A man passing by stopped to assist. Miss Reagan then drove one-third of a mile to the nearest house and called the fire department.

Ovid, Romulus and Interlaken Fire Departments responded but the house was gutted.
