Bellevue Has a Bad Fire.
Recently a fire almost wiped out the business section of Bellevue, Mich. The block destroyed was on the west side of Main street. comprising nine stores, eight wood and one brick, all two stories high. The fire started in a jewelry store, from the ignition of coal gas at 4:30 a. m., and according to the report of Chief F. R. Fitzgerald, it had gained considerable headway before the alarm was received. There was only a 4 inch hydrant on the block available, besides a gasoline engine, and this poor equipment had much to do with the rapid spread of the flames.
