Bigger Firemen for New York.
An Albany dispatch of January 22 states that the State civil service commission, by resolution, has set the stamp of its approval on the civil service decree emanating from New York city and providing for the raising of the minimum height and weight of the city’s firemen. The present standard fixes the minimum height at 5 ft. 7 in. and the minimum weight at 135 lb. In the resolution just adopted one in. and five lb. are added to the existing requirements. The fire department desires to secure heavier men than are now employed.
