BOATING AND FISHING ON METROPOLITAN PONDS.
The purity of the water supply of the Boston district has been threatened by a bill recently introduced in the Massachusetts legislature to permit boating on the ponds of the Metropolitan waterworks. These beautiful sheets of water would be delightful places for boating and fishing. “Such amusements (says a contemporary) should not be tolerated, however, on any pond which furnishes a water supply for potable purposes. If it is permitted to one, it must be permitted to all, and the waiter would inevitably become contaminated. When municipalities are spending large sums to acquire control of the land bordering tnese reservoirs in order to keep people away from the water, it is surely not the time to allow everybody to use boats on them, without further formality than procuring a license.”
