BRASS CONNECTIONS AND HOSE EQUIPMENT STOLEN.
The fire protection of sonu of the big office buildings in New York city is being endangered by sneak thieves, who are liberally helping themselves to the brass fixtures connected with standpipe and hose equipments. In several buildings the brass nozzles have been stolen; in some the hose has been cut; in others the coupling was nly unscrewed. The active and watchful superintendents replace all these losses at once; those who are not equally vigilant either do not miss them or are too lazy to replace them. In the latter case, if a fire broke out, the protective equipment prescribed by the law would be utterly useless. So common are these acts of petty theft becoming, that architects are now estimating on cast iron, instead of brass equipment. One of the chief sufferers from these expensive thefts taken.
