Bridgeport Asks for Higher Salaries

A petition to the Board of Aldermen of Bridgeport, Conn., will be presented by the fire commissioners of that city asking for an increase in salaries for members of the department of twenty per cent, the same to take effect on or before April 1, 1920. At the present time the first year men in the department receive a yearly wage of $1,500; second year men, $1,625, and third year men, $1,750. The officers’ salaries are: lientenant, $1,875; captain, $2,250; assistant chiefs, $2,500, and chief, $3,500. The engineers receive the same salary as the lieutenants. When the new increase comes the list of salaries for tne department will be as follows: chief, $5,250; assistant chiefs, $3,000; superintendent of machinery, $3,000; superintendent of fire alarm, $3,375; captains, $2,700; lieutenants, $2,250; first grade privates, $2,100; second grade, $1,950; third grade, $1,800.
