California Communities Enact Mutual Aid Pact

Fire Chief William Elder of the Vista, Calif., Fire Department announces San Diego County’s first mutual fire fighting aid pact has been drawn up.

Chief Elder said the mutual aid setup was the result of a campaign by the Northern San Diego County Fire Chiefs Association.

The plan provides for fire companies to give emergency assistance to each other and to provide help, where possible, outside of districts. Chief Elder said the proposal has been agreed to by these communities in addition to his own: Encinitas, Fallbrook, San Marcos, Escondido, Carlsbad, Ramona, Solana Beach, and Oceanside.

In addition, the eight California Division of Forestry units and companies at the Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton and the Naval Ammunition Depot at Fallbrook have pledged their cooperation.
