California Section, A. W. W. A., Convenes

The fifth annual convention of the California Section of the American Water Works Association was held at the Hotel Sacramento, Sacramento, Cal., on October 23 to 25, with a large number of water works men of the Pacific Coast in attendance. The morning of Thursday, October 23 was devoted to registration and general get-together meetings. The first regular session opened at 2 P. M., with an address of welcome by Mayor Albert Elkus, of Sacramento.

A number of interesting papers were read at the business sessions of the convention, and the discussion on them was both general and spirited. Several important committee reports were also received and filed.

The election of officers resulted as follows: George Pracy. superintendent of the Spring Valley Water Company of San Francisco, president; C. B. Jackson, superintendent of the Fresno City Water Corporation, vice-president; S. B. Morris. Pasadena, secretary, and John Burt, Marin, member of the executive committee.

A dinner dance was held on the evening of October 24. On Saturday, October 25, the convention was taken over the new filtration plant of Sacramento, and this was followed by a basket luncheon.

About 200 delegates and visitors registered at the convention. There was an interesting exhibit of water works machinery and appliances during the convention at the hotel.

Wilmington, N. C., Awards Alum Contract—The city of Wilmington, N. C„ has let a contract for a year’s supply of alum for the water department. The quantity required for the year ranges between 150 and 200 tons. The award was granted to E. I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., of Philadelphia. whose price, $1.66 per hundred pounds, net, f. o. b. Wilmington, was the lowest offered.
