Cambridge Chief Asks for Appropriations for Apparatus

Chief Engineer Casey, of the Cambridge, Mass., department, has recommended the purchase of a combination hose pump and chemical apparatus to take the place of steam engine 6 on River street, and a combination hose and chemical motor truck for Hose 2, Lafayette square. Old steamer 6 is at present out of commission and it will cost $2,000 to repair it. Installing these pieces of apparatus, the chief says, will do away with five horses now in service at Engine 6’s house and eliminate the necessity of maintaining Chemical 1 in Central square. This will give more men for service in other houses and make a big saving in upkeep. The chief asks an appropriation of $20,000 for the purpose.
