Canadian Essay Prizes Awarded

Prizes of $1,400 have been won by 14 pupils in the National Centennial Children’s Essay Contest on “History of Fire Fighting In My Community.” The sponsors were the Association of Canadian Fire Marshals and Fire Commissioners, the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, Inc., and the Canadian division of the International Association of Fire Fighters.

First prize of $500 was won by Virginia Creen, Grade 8, of Lower Sackville, N.S. Second prize of $250 was won by Trevor William Dawson, Grade 7, Oaklands Elementary School, Victoria, B.C. Third prize of $100 was won by Debbie Couture, Grade 5, St. James Separate School, Prince Albert, Sask. There were 11 winners of $50 prizes.
