Care of Sprinklers
In the care of a sprinkler system, cleanliness of the pipes is a very important matter. The sprinkler head should be kept free from dust and should be carefully brushed down, and, where the piping is located along walls, any rubbish or litter which may have accumulated should be removed and pipes kept free from dangerous contact with walls, partitions, etc. When it becomes necessary to close a sprinkler valve during working hours, a competent man should be stationed at the valve, so that the water can be turned on immediately in case a fire occurs. When necessary to make changes in sprinkler system, extra care should be taken to have the least possible portion of the equipment out of commission at one time. Whenever it is necessary to shut water off sprinklers, or in any way modify the fire protection, the inspection department having jurisdiction should be first notified.
