The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) announced that it is now accepting nominations for its 2012 national awards program.
These awards honor both individuals and organizations for excellence in leadership. With the generous support of corporations and organizations committed to public safety, CFSI is able to recognize leaders who have made major contributions to our nation’s fire and emergency services.
CFSI is seeking both individuals and organizations deserving of recognition for outstanding leadership in the advancement of firefighter health and safety and the delivery of emergency medical services.

The awards presentations will take place on April 26 at the 24th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner in Washington, DC.
Mason Lankfors Fire Service Leadership Award
Co-sponsored by the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) and Motorola Solutions, the Mason Lankford Fire Service Leadership Award recognizes public safety leaders who have distinguished themselves for their proactive efforts at the local, state and federal government levels to improve the readiness and response capabilities of the fire and emergency services and address public safety awareness and education. The criteria stress the importance of forming positive working relationships with government leaders as a means for achievement.
The deadline for submitting nominations is March 4th.
Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Fire Service Safety Leadership Award
Co-sponsored by the Congressional Fire Services Institute and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, with corporate support from State Farm Insurance and VFIS, the Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Fire Service Safety Leadership Award is presented to organizations for leadership in promoting and supporting firefighter health and safety initiatives at the local, state and national levels. The award is named in honor of former Senator Paul S. Sarbanes of Maryland who introduced legislation in 1990 that established the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. A member of Congress for 36 years, Senator Sarbanes served as Chairman of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus and was considered one of the most ardent supporters of the fire and emergency services during his Senate career.

Excellence in Fire Service-Based EMS Awards Program
Co-sponsored by the Congressional Fire Services Institute and the MedicAlert Foundation, the Excellence in Fire Service-Based EMS Award recognizes best practices in emergency medical services by fire departments to encourage other fire departments to consider similar practices to improve their fire service-based EMS systems. The award recognizes departments in three categories: career, volunteer and combination.
The deadline for submitting applications is March 16th.
