Julie Rochman, president and CEO of the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), will talk to Bill Webb of the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) about her organization’s work to reduce the social and economic effects of natural disasters and other risks on residential and commercial property by conducting building science research and advocating improved construction, maintenance and preparedness practices.

IBHS operates a state-of-the-art research center in Chester County, South Carolina (50 minutes south of Charlotte, North Carolina) that enables researchers to study structural improvements in business and home construction to withstand the destructive forces of natural disasters.  Visit http://www.disastersafety.org/research for an ember test demonstration at the research facility. A very dynamic speaker, Ms. Rochman will offer her insights and answer questions on how the work of IBHS is benefiting public safety in terms of making our communities more resistant to the catastrophic impacts of natural disasters.
