Chambersburg Conflagration Celebration
Chambersburg, Pa., observes the fiftieth anniversary of its burning by the Confederate army, under General Early, July 30, 1864, with an Old Home Week Celebration which included a parade by many visiting fire companies, and the annual convention of the Cumberland Valley Firemen’s Association. There were 22 companies in the parade. The firemen’s association elected the following officers: President. George H. Bitner, Chambersburg; Treasurer, W. H. Richter, Chambersburg; Secretary, Edward Stremmel, Waynesboro; Vice-Presidents. John Rowe, Chambersburg; J. W. Smith. Carlisle, and J. L. Bateman, Martinsburg, W. Va.
