Chief Charles Worthington of Camden, N. J., Killed
Chief Charles Worthington of the Camden, N. J., fire department was killed at a fire at 11 P. M., Friday May 8. The fire partially destroyed the Camden Electro-Heating Plant in George Street. Chief Worthington was directing the operations of the department from the roof of a two story adjoining building and while attempting to avoid skylights he walked off the roof and fell 30 feet into an alleyway. He was picked up unconscious and died on the way to the hospital. Chief Worthington, who succeeded Chief S. S. Elfreth Nov. 1, 1913, was 40 years of age, and was a member of the department 12 years and captain of Engine Company 6 when he became chief.
