Chief Gaffney Retires
Chief William E. Gaffney of the Watertown, N. Y., Fire Department retired recently after serving forty-two years, twenty-two of them as chief. The Chief was given a testimonial dinner which was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Fire Prevention Commitee.
Chief Gaffney is a member of the city’s first paid fire department, organized in 1900. He has been succeeded by Joseph T. Dibble, a member of the department for twenty-seven years.
Chief Gaffney, upon his retirement, was tendered a civilian protection post of commander of the control center at the city hall.
