Chief Gordon, Haverhill, Resigns
Chief John B. Gordon of the Haverhill, Mass., fire department has sent in his resignation to the city council and requested that his name be placed on the retired list on May 1. Chief Gordon has been a member of the Haverhill fire department for forty-two years and has been chief for thirtytwo years. He is in his seventy-fourth year and intends to retire to a farm in New Hampshire. The portrait published on this page was taken some years ago.
The formal retiring of Chief Gordon has been passed by the council fixing his pension at $1,150 per year. District Chief William H. Hawkins, who has been a member of the department since 1890, has been appointed chief to take effect May 1.
