Chief Howard of Petersborough Remains

The attempt of Alderman Johnson of Peterborough, Ontario, to cause the dismissal of Chief W. A. Howard from the fire department of that city last week was a dismal failure. The charges preferred were so frivilous that his fellow councilmen refused to agree with him, and in a fit of anger the alderman resigned from the council and the chairmanship of the fire committee. Chief Howard is recognized in the city of Peterborough as a competent fire department head, and it was freely admitted that another man as competent could not be found for a much higher salary than the city is paying Howard.
