Chief Injured in Fire at Ft. Gaines, Ga.
Fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the twostory brick constructed McRae warehouse at Fort Gaines, Ga., Wednesday night, October 24. Chief George Coleman and two firemen were injured. Chief Coleman was caught under a fallen wall and his lungs are affected, hip broken and skull fractured. He was taken to the city hospital and is in a very serious condition. The firemen who were also caught under the wall are suffering with fractured arms and legs. Three hundred and fifty hales of cotton, 75 tons of peanuts and a large quantity of cotton seed were stored in the warehouse, which was destroyed. A high wind was blowing at the time and several buildings on the opposite side of the street from the warehouse were slightly damaged. The Cuthhert fire department was called upon for assistance ami made a record breaking run of 25 miles, rendering valuable assistance in combating the flames. The total loss will reach about $85,000.
