Chief Langford, who, as was staled in the last issue of FIRE AND WATER, has just been placed at the head of the fire department of Fall River, Mass., entered that department in 1875 and served as a member of steamer company No. 7 for about six years. At the end of that time he was transferred to hook and ladder No. 2, where he remained up to March 1, 1885, when he was elected asssistant chief of the department. From that dale to the beginning of this year, when he was elected as the successor of Chief Davol, he performed the duties of his office with a zeal and energy that augur well for his success in his new position, to which he brings the experience of twenty years, during twelve of which he was assistant chief.
