Chief of Burlington, N. J., Convicted
The second airin in Criminal Court of the dispute between the Burlington, N. J., city council and the fire department took place October 21, when Robert W. Parckley, the chief appointed by council in opposition to the wishes of the volunteer firemen, was convicted of assault and battery on C. S. Sharp and Henry Wills at a fire on September 15. Barckley attempted to direct the firer en, who nsisted on recognizing a chief of their own choosing, Eli Lawrence Jr. Barckley, the evidence showed, was on a shed roof against which a ladder had been placed, and on which Sharo and Willis were working with a chemical line. His command to pass the hose to him was met with a refusal. Barckley went to the ladder to take the hose from Sharp and his foot came in contact with Sharp’s head. Sharp fell to a grape arbor and was bruised. Willis was humped around a little at the same time.
