Chief Sees Childbirth Film Just In Time to Assist Stork
When Chief William E. Hadden, Sr., of the Springdale, Conn., Fire Department watched a film about emergency childbirth, he had no idea that he was going to play a principal role in a similar drama within 12 hours.
The movie was shown during a meeting of the Fairfield County Fire Chiefs Emergency Plan one night last November. About 7:30 the next morning, the Springdale volunteer chief and one of his firemen, Joseph Lefferson, responded on an ambulance call to the Springdale railroad station. The stork arrived just as the ambulance did, and the two firemen assisted as the mother gave birth to a baby outside the station. Mother and child were then taken in the ambulance to a hospital.
Hadden had a similar experience several years ago, but he commented that the film was a good refresher course.
