Citizens Endorse Chief James Armstrong
Believing that the request of Chief James Armstrong, of Kingston, Ont., for an increase of salary, is just, many citizens have signed a petition to the City Council asking that it be granted. The City Council recently decided against the request owing to the heavy tax rate this year. The petitioners state that in all probability Chief Armstrong will sever his connection with the department unless his salary is made satisfactory, and the request is made that his salary be made satisfactory, and thus retain his services, believing that the city cannot afford to lose his service for the sake of perhaps a couple hundred dollars. The petitioners also speak of the good work of Chief Armstrong since he took over the position, five years ago.
