Col. Arthur F. Townsend Dies
Col. Arthur Farragut Townsend, Chairman of the Board of RaybestosManhattan, Inc., and General Manager of the Manhattan Rubber Manufacturing Division, Passaic, N. J., died recently at his residence, at the age of seventy-four.
Col. Townsend was born in 1865 in Boston, Mass., and graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1884. He started off as a shipping clerk with the New York Belting and Packing Company. After nine vears with that company he had worked up to Assistant Manager. In 1893 he helped organize the Manhattan Rubber Manufacturing Company. He served this Company as Secretary, Vice-President, and President the latter office he held from 1903 to 1929.
