Company Aids Employees Not Working

For forty years, French & Hecht, Inc., have been operating a mutual aid to assist employees incapacitated through illness or accident so that the earning power is stopped.

An assessment of one per cent is made on the weekly earnings. Should the income be reduced due to part time work, the tax is made on the amount earned during the week. To the amount thus collected. French & Hecht, Inc., added a similar amount thus doubling the fund.

A committee composed of workmen consider and pass on every application for assistance. The amount spent for food, clothing and so forth is returned when the person is again working, but no interest is charged on the loan. No cash can be distributed at any time. Since its organization the Association has paid in sick and accident benefits about $100,000 and has helped 1,500 employees to take care of themselves when wages have stopped because of sickness or accident. Modest assistance is also given in case of death.
