Connecticut Considering Fire-Risks.

A committee has been appointed by the fire commissioners of New Haven, Conn., to prepare by-laws and a form of organisation, to consider matters for legislative or concerted action, and to interest commissioners, ex-commissioners and chiefs of city departments all over the State to form an association of fire commissioners. The following topics were discussed: The need of better building regulations, The danger of Christmas and other decorations. The necessity of proper fire escapes. The greater restriction of the sale of fireworks, so as to prevent their presence in buildings in which people live. The dangers from gasoline storage and the garage firerisk. Uniformity in hose-couplings and hydrant-connections, or the advisability of each city keeping on hand special couplings for the use of companies called in from elsewhere. The possibility of an arrangement between Connecticut cities as to what each could do for another in time of conflagration. Compelling the placing of outside standpipes on all buildings in congested districts. Requiring automatic sprinklers in cellars, with outside hoseconnections. Restricting the use of sirens to automobile fire apparatus. Requiring outside shutoffs on gas pipes entering buildings.
