Connecticut Legislature Clarifies Right of Way

Larry Ford, state fire coordinator for Connecticut recently had the pleasure of seeing amendments to two bills, that he had submitted, passed by the general assembly and signed by the governor.

The first established that firemen have the right of way over all other traffic while responding to an emergency call as well as when responding to a fire.

The second clarified the status of firemen responding outside their jurisdictional limits in that they shall have the same rights, privileges and immunities granted to them on such response as possessed in their own communities. Another section of this same bill permits fire companies to participate and broaden the scope of mutual aid agreements.
