In the course of the examination of winesses in a suit to determine the rearonableness of the city water rates, it was brought out that during the past year more than eighteen hundred and forty million gallons were consumed by . between seventy hundred and seventy-three hundred takers. of which quantity from 20 to 25 per cent was taken from Hoffman’s Creek. The defendant company has ninety-three miles of main laid in the city, on which are set 512 hydrants. The pipes are laid at an average depth of five feet.
