Decrease in Water Consumption in Salem, Mass.
A considerable decrease in water consumption is shown by a report of the water works of Salem, Mass., for the month of September this year, it amounting to 16,500,000 odd gallons over the same month in the year preceding and nearly 11,000,000 less than in August of this year. The daily rate in September of this year was 550,000 gallons less per day than during the same month in the year preceding, and well on toward 200,000 gallons less per day than in August of this year. The total amount used in September was 155,160,000 gallons, with the daily rate averaging 5,170,000 gallons, while the year previous the consumption was 171,740,000 gallons for the month and 5,720,000 gallons per day. In August of this year the water used totalled to 166,050,000 gallons and the average per day was 5,356,000 gallons.
