DETROIT’S NEW FIREBOAT.
The new fireboat James Battle, of the Detroit,Mich., fire department has proved herself on a test trial faster than the old boat the Detroiter. Her speed indicated fourteen or fifteen miles an hour. The water gun on the deck house aft was given a test under check while the boat was making her first trip up the river and worked very satisfactorily. A solid four-inch stream of water was thrown into the air and dropped back over the port bow, breaking into spray as it reached the surface of the river. The water was shot out with a force sufficient to have torn up a pavement. She was built by the Detroit Shipbuilding company.
