Diversion of New Jersey Water.
After a conference with Attorney General Wilson and Chancellor Pitney. Governor Fort, of New Jersey, has decided that it is unnecessary to call a special session of the legislature to prevent the diversion of the State’s water to Richmond County, N. Y. In place of this the attorney general will apply to the Court of Chancery for an injunction restraining the water company from dredging or laying its pipes under the Kill von Kull, which injunction will be promptly granted, as such action would be a trespass on the riparian rights of the state. In order to bring this about it is necessary that affidavits be filed by the official of Bayonne telling of the efforts made by the waiter company to connect its pipes in New Jersey with a pipe line in Staten Island, for the purpose of diverting State water to the latter place. The city engineer of Bayonne has been instructed to prepare such affidavits for the use of the Governor in the proceedings. When the injunction is granted, the water question will be tied up in such a manner as to render impossible any move on the part of the company until the legislature meets in January.
