The Dominion Association of Fire Chiefs at its recent convention held at Windsor, Ont., elected the following officers: President, J. E. Buchanan, Winnipeg; first vice-president, J. Corbett. Massey-Harris Fire Department. Toronto; second vice-president, Richard Pritchard, Chatham; secretary, James Armstrong, Kingston; treasurer, John E. Keys, Galt. Members of Board of Directors—E. E. Ross, Swift Current; T. E. Heath, Saskatoon. Auditors—W. A. White, Regina; John Smith, Guelph; A. Tossier, Hull, Quo. Port Arthur was the city chosen for the 1917 convention. The program for the convention included opening of the convention by the president, Chief J. W. Graham, of Ottawa. Addresses of welcome by Mayor Arthur W. Jackson and Alderman T. J. Eansor; reply by Chief W. A. Howard, of Peterborough; an auto ride through Windsor, Walkervillc and Sandwich, and a trip by boat down the Detroit river to Boise Blanc Island and the Livingston cut. Following is the program of topics: “The Fire Wall An Essential in Crowded Buildings,” by H. F. J. Porter; “The Duties, Responsibilities and Work of the hire Marshal,” by E. P. Heaton, of Toronto, Ont.; “Demonstration of Spontaneous Combustion and Their Causes,” by George E. Walker; “Fires Caused by Accident, Carelessness or Design,” bv Chief J. W. Graham, Ottawa,; “Town Planning and Fire Prevention,” by a member of the Commission on Conservation, Ottaw’a; “Standardization, Having Special Reference to Its Need in Regard to Fire Apparatus and Tools,” by J. Grove mith, Commission on Conservation, Ottawa.
