ECCENTRICITIES OF A FIRE.
The following remarkable incident took place in connection with a small loss op Drury college. Springfield, Mo. The loss was supposed to have occurred by a small leak at a solder joint above the gas meter. In some manner the gas escaping from this leak became lighted, melting the solder, and, as the solder melted, the opening increased in size, creating more heat and finally unjointing the pipe, letting the meter, with about eight feet of pipe, fall over. The blaze became of sufficient size to catch the building, causing the damage. In connection with this loss, it is interesting to learn that, when the gas meter and pipe fell, they fell against a water meter and broke it. The water from the opening made was forced over against the fire, and put it out.
