Eight-Hour Bill Killed in Ontario

Chiefly because of the added financial burden, the cities of Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa, Ont., opposed a bill which would compel cities of 10,000 population or more, to establish the three-platoon system. An estimate was made that this bill would have added $1,360,000 to the annual cost of maintaining Fire Departments in Ontario.

Estimates of the added cost due to the bill are Toronto, $568,442; Kingston, $12,620; Kitchener, $18,353; Oshawa, $13,203; Ottawa, $153,809; St. Catherines, $18,969; Windsor, $58,on.
