Empire Hose Test at Trenton

In speaking of final tests of 3,000 feet of hose manufactured by the Empire Rubber and Tire Company for the Trenton, N. J., fire department, the Trention State Gazette said in part: “Every requirement of the specifications, which were drawn especially for this city, was rigidly enforced by Chief Bennett, and the hose more than sufficiently met every one. Especial attention was paid to the pressure test, the specifications requiring that the hose withstand 300 pounds. Each of the fifty-foot sections withstood the 300 pounds without hardly a perceptible move. The most remarkable test was the subjection of one section to 1,100 pounds, the hose coming through it unscathed. This section was picked out at random Assistant Chief Stackhouse from the sixty sections. The department officials are naturally highly gratified with the hose. The hose is double cotton jacketed and is two and one-half inches in diameter.
