ENGINEER CHANGED AT CHICAGO.

In furtherance of his plan to rehabilitate the water service of Chicago, Ill., the commissioner of public works has appointed W. A. Shaw, engineer in charge of intercepting sewers, as head of the water department, to act for City Engineer Ericson, who is to become consulting engineer, Mr. Shaw will take charge at once. The reforms which he will be directed to bring anout are: Installation of water meters; to devise a comprehensive plan to be worked out from year to year as the city grows; to establish an independent water system for the stockyards: to install a new system of accounting devised by the city comptroller; to establish time clocks to keep tab on all employes.
