Ex-Asst. Chief Welsh, Columbus, Dead
John A. Welsh, seventy-two years old, and until recently Assistant Fire Chief, Columbus, Ohio, in charge of the Fire Prevention Bureau, died at a local hospital.
He entered the department when he was nineteen years old. He resigned on July 8, 19.30, to enter the hospital for an operation and a rest. When he resigned the Safety Director issued an order making any engine house in the city, Chief Welsh’s home. His death prevented the fulfillment of the order.
In 1890 he was made Captain; Battalion Chief, 1898, and head of the Fire Prevention Bureau in 1914. He is survived by three brothers and a sister.
