False Alarm Takes Tragic Toll
Baltimore, Md., which has had its share of fire apparatus accidents resulting from false alarms, chalked up another tragic story on April 7, 1955.
Nine-year-old La Ramona Willinghans was struck and critically injured by a piece of fire apparatus as she played in the street. Her left arm was torn off at the elbow.
The apparatus was answering a call that proved to be false.
