FAVORABLE CONDITIONS AT DETROIT.

In commenting on the changes in the Detroit fire department, the Free Press of that city says: “It speaks well for the whole organisation that there grew up with Chief Kendall lieutenants competent to keep the line of advancement intact and insure a continuation of the direction which has so far been maintained without a break. Assistant Chief Broderick is a capable successor to the office, and behind him are a group of battalion chiefs of pronounced competence and bravery, in all forming the nucleus of an organisation which, so far. has never failed to answer the most exacting requirements, and, in the future, gives promise of maintaining indefinitely the record of the past.”
