FDNY Loses 200th Member to 9/11-Related Illness

NEW YORK – The FDNY reaches a somber milestone with the passing of the 200th member to have died of a 9/11-related illness, according to the New York Daily News.

Retired Firefighter Richard Driscoll died on Wednesday after having been exposed to toxins while working in the rescue and recovery efforts immediately following the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said of Driscoll’s passing, “It is almost incomprehensible that after losing 343 members on September 11, we have now had 200 more FDNY members die due to World Trade Center illness.”

Driscoll retired from Engine Company 91, in East Harlem, in 2002.
