FILTRATION AT ALBANY.
During the period of four years ending on September 30, 1903 the slow sand filtration works at Albany, N. Y., are reported as having removed 99.27 per cent, of bacteria in the applied water. In the average daily counts Sundays and holidays are not included. During the last twelve months of the above term 99.64 per cent, of bacteria were removed. The following list shows the maximum and minimum average number of bacteria by months: January, 56,000 and 299; July, 3,800, and twenty-five; year, 25,600 and ninety-two. The average yield per acre of filtered water during the past year (from October I to September 30 inclusive) was 2,260,000 gallons.
