FIRE CHIEF BADLY INJURED.

FIRE CHIEF BADLY INJURED.

As Chief L. M. Krebs, of the Newport, Ky., fire department was exercising his horse—a very spirited one—and was crossing one set of car tracks, the animal suddenly turned when halfway over, causing the front axle of the buggy to snap off. The horse at once became frightened and ran away till it came to a blacksmith’s shop, where it ran against a piece of machinery. The buggy was wrecked, and Chief Krebs was thrown out, receiving injuries which will keep him to his room for at least two months; it may even he that he will be compelled to retire. His right leg was broken in two places, near the hip and below the knee. This was his second runaway accident since he was named as chief of the fire department. Assistant Chief Thomasson has been appointed acting chief till Chief Krebs recovers.
