Fire Chief Produces Documentary Film

Camera buff Herbert Houghton, chief of the Benton Township, Mich., Fire Department, turned his hobby to good use recently by filming “Fire Fighters,” a documentary that shows the on-duty life and schooling of area fire fighters. Shot over a year-long period, the movie was written and directed by Harry Hatcher of the local safety council. Included are fire scenes, department drills, school drills and home fire prevention inspections.

Used in the promotion of Fire Prevention Week last year, the film was sponsored by the Twin Cities Association of Independent Insurance Agents and the Twin Cities Safety Council. A soundtrack narration accompanies the movie and only a few of the scenes had to be staged, according to Chief Houghton. The film is available to local groups for showing.
