Fire Destroys Pattern Making Factory

The storage building of the A. O. Smith Corporation metal castings plant at 5715 Smithway Street, East Los Angeles, Calif., was destroyed on August 10.

William France, general manager of the plant, said the loss in patterns, stock and finished parts alone would total $500,000 or better. Five other buildings on the property in a heavy industrial district escaped damage.

The firm manufactures patterns for meters, service station and hydraulic pumping equipment and aircraft parts. The early morning blaze was fought by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
