Fire Destroys Theatre at Hattiesburg
The largest theatre in Hattiesburg, Miss., was recently destroyed by fire, the cause of which was not known. When discovered at 1 o’clock in the morning the fire was in the basement and dressing rooms. The theatre was only half a block from No. 1 fire station and the fire department, of which A. F. Potter is chief, had just returned from another theatre fire when the alarm for this fire came in. The theatre was just across the street (thirty feet) from the water works pumping station, and Superintendent of Water Works Burke Jones states that on account of a favorable wind and the effective work of the fire department the fire did no damage whatever to the plant.
