Fire Improvement Suggested for Topeka, Kan.
Chief Joseph Hanlon of the fire department of Topeka, Kan., has recommended to the city commissioners that a triple combination pumper and city service truck be purchased and that an aerial truck be shipped back to the factory to be rebuilt and brought up to date. The latter has been in service since 1905. He also recommends the erection of a drill tower on the ground adjoining the city auditorium so that the fire department may be brought up to proper efficiency by drills. Another recommendation made by the chief was that some provision be made for the purchase of at least fifteen Gamewell fire alarm boxes.
In considering the new charter for Jamestown, N. Y., Mayor Samuel A. Carlson made the suggestion to the charter revision committee that the fire and police departments he combined into a department of public safety. The mayor would have the members of this department to serve both as policemen and firemen. The committee, it ts said, did not take well to the suggestion.
