Fire Losses Hit Record High

Fire losses in the United States rose to a record high of $1,455,631,000 in 1965. an increase of 6.5 percent over losses of $1,367,128,000 in 1964, the American Insurance Association reported.

“This was the sixth consecutive year in which fire losses set a new high, and the ninth year in which fire losses exceeded a billion dollars,” said J. Dewey Dorsett. president of the Association.

Estimated fire losses for the month of December totaled $124,036,000, a decrease of 0.4 percent under $124,587,000 for December a year ago and an increase of 10.5 percent over $112,282,000 in November, the preceding month.
