A legislative hearing was held at the State House, Boston, recently, on the bill of the Boston Chamber of Commerce, known as Senate Bill No. 313, to provide a fire prevention system for the Metropolitan District comprising 37 cities and towns in the vicinity of Boston. The proposed system is to be under the control of three fire prevention commissioners and the inspection work is to be done by local firemen. All who work appeared is to for or against the bill werefrom Boston. No one representing any of the 36 cities and towns outside of Boston or their fire departments, favored or opposed the bill. There is another similar bill before the Legislature, presented by the city of Boston, which provides for Boston only. Fire Commissioner C. H. Cole represented the Boston Fire Department in favor of the bill.
